Calling All Shutterbugs: Show Us What Motivates You To Reduce Plastic

In celebration of Plastic-Free July, Florida Sea Grant is running a photo contest to honor the many motivations that lead individuals to cut back their plastic use, opting instead to reduce, reuse, recycle, or refuse.

Plastics are present in our everyday life—but not without an environmental impact. Adopting plastic-reducing habits helps stop microplastics from polluting our natural environments, where they pose a threat to both wildlife and our own human health.

Be it for the protection of a favorite sea creature, for a healthier planet left to future generations, or the preservation of a cherished coastal spot, we want to know what motivates you to help keep our ocean plastic-free.

Sharing your actions will multiply your efforts! Over the month of July, Florida Sea Grant will be sharing the inspiring submissions of contestants across our social channels. A judging panel of Florida Sea Grant team members will be selecting three finalists to receive special recognition and a Florida Sea Grant swag prize pack.

How To Participate

  • A complete entry requires an original photo and 2-3 sentences, both answering the question, “What motivates you to reduce your plastic use?”
  • Contestants should submit their entry to the contest’s Google Form no later than July 26, 2021 at midnight EST. Winners will be contacted and announced by July 29, 2021.
