Biscayne Bay Commission Coordinator
About
Bethany Tober is the Biscayne Bay Commission Coordinator for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Florida Sea Grant. Bethany will be helping with the coordination of these commission meetings that occur quarterly and assisting in the management of the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves. She is joining the Florida Sea Grant team after working for the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves as their Marine Debris and Education Specialist, primarily focusing on the spoil islands in Biscayne Bay and their management. She initiated the first spoil island marine debris study to observe the difference in islands with and without trash receptacles. Prior to her work at BBAP, she earned her Master of Professional Science degree from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School in Tropical Marine Ecology while doing an internship with Debris Free Oceans that compared coastal cleanups to inland cleanups and how cleanup metrics differed at each. She enjoys reading and collecting interesting books, drinking coffee, and enjoying the sunshine outdoors.
The Biscayne Bay Commission was created by Governor DeSantis to protect vital natural resources within Biscayne Bay. The ten member commission helps guide management and protection of the bay. At the public meetings, commissioners will hear presentations from managers, law enforcement, and local scientists on the conditions of the bay.
