For more than 50 years, Florida Sea Grant has been at the forefront of coastal and marine research, education, and extension throughout the state. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Florida Sea Grant is proud to present “Decades of Advancing Coastal & Marine Science,” a special webinar series highlighting longstanding collaborations with leading university partners across Florida, including the University of Miami, Florida State University, and Florida International University.
With more than 8,400 miles of coastline and diverse ecosystems facing increasing pressures from rapid urbanization and environmental change, effective coastal extension and education programs require localized knowledge and specialized expertise. Florida Sea Grant has built a strong legacy of partnerships with universities and colleges across the state to help address these complex coastal challenges through research, outreach, and workforce development. These collaborations have also created opportunities for students and strengthened connections with UF/IFAS Extension programs throughout the state.
“Each seminar in the series will provide an inside look at the innovative research hubs and collaborative partnerships that support Florida Sea Grant’s mission to protect, sustain, and enhance Florida’s coastal resources and communities,” says Dr. Sherry Larkin, Director of Florida Sea Grant.
The series will kick off on May 15, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET, featuring colleagues from the University of Miami and Florida Sea Grant. Speakers include:
- Dr. Sherry Larkin – Director and Professor, Florida Sea Grant
