Project

Mitigating Wind-Induced Vibrations in Curtainwall Systems

Full Title: Full-scale experimentation and computational modelling to mitigate wind-induced vibrations and their effects on curtainwall window systems
This project focuses on mitigating wind-induced vibrations and water ingress in curtainwall window systems through full-scale testing and computational modeling. The research aims to enhance building codes and design practices, providing safer and more resilient solutions for high-rise buildings in extreme wind zones.

Project Abstract:

The project aims to develop tools to evaluate and mitigate risks of operable window systems in extreme winds. It involves full-scale testing at FIU’s Wall of Wind facility to produce data for risk and performance assessment tools addressing wind-induced vibrations and water ingress. The project will enhance building codes and design practices for curtainwall windows, benefiting the curtainwall and building envelope industry by providing advanced computational structural analysis tools.
