A wide, sunny shot captures a tranquil sandy beach meeting vibrant turquoise ocean waters under a vast, cloudless blue sky. White sea foam rolls gently onto the beige shoreline, creating a peaceful, minimalist coastal landscape.

Today on Marine Science Minute with Florida Sea Grant: World Ocean Day.

A split-level over-under shot shows two snorkelers swimming in clear turquoise ocean water over a shallow coral reef. Above the water line, a white boat sits anchored near a distant skeletal-frame lighthouse under a bright blue sky filled with puffy white clouds

Planet Earth is 71 percent water. Our bodies consist of 70 percent water. On World Ocean Day, we recognize and celebrate our connection to the water.

Florida is surrounded by ocean, which brings residents and visitors here.

The ocean supports recreational activities such as going to the beach, fishing, boating, paddling, snorkeling and SCUBA diving.

Florida’s economy thrives off of our healthy coast and ocean, generating high property values and sustaining working waterfronts.

Florida Sea Grant supports research, education and extension to protect and conserve our ocean, as well as maintain the sustainable use of its vast resources. How will you celebrate World Ocean Day?
