Florida Sea Grant has released a new, full-color feature magazine showcasing some of the organization’s most impactful programs around the state.

Florida Sea Grant: Where Innovation Meets Impact  is a 28-page publication featuring stories about how Florida Sea Grant extension agents and researchers help communities and businesses address issues affecting their economic prosperity and sustainability.

Topics covered include:

  • How the Florida Sea Grant agent in Pinellas County led an expert science panel to develop guidance on what sea-level rise projections should be incorporated into communities’ comprehensive plans, helping increase hazard resilience in Tampa Bay.
  • The innovative land-use strategies that Florida Sea Grant’s legal specialist is using with state and local partners to help Florida’s citizens and visitors access their coast and waterways responsibly.
  • The broad range of educational scholarships and professional training that Florida Sea Grant makes available for both students and adult learners, helping the state meet its needs for a workforce skilled in science and technology.

“Most of Florida’s 20 million residents live just a short drive from the coast. Another 97 million tourists are drawn to the state every year for its bountiful ocean resources,” writes Florida Sea Grant director Karl Havens in the magazine’s opening notes.

“Through this publication, we’re inviting readers to learn how our innovative program directly supports outcomes that conserve and sustain the precious ocean and coastal resources of Florida.”The magazine is available online at this link:  Florida Sea Grant: Where Innovation Meets Impact
