Florida Sea Grant Seeking A Science Communicator

Florida Sea Grant is seeking a Science Communicator to join its Communications team.

This position will be responsible for the development of written material that builds awareness of the Sea Grant program and UF-based faculty, and helps effectively communicate our science to target audiences with the goal of improving the understanding of coastal and marine issues in Florida. This position will be responsible for developing and preparing a variety of science-based written content such as news releases, newsletter articles, scripts, blogs, social media posts, impact and accomplishment statements and the like. The writing should convey scientific information in a neutral manner, refraining from advocacy or recommendations. This position will need to conduct interviews and collect information from various sources, perform copywriting and editing, and have an attention to detail. This position will work with internal and external PR teams to promote topical content.

Duties include developing articles and press releases promoting faculty research and various projects and programmatic events, pitching content to partners and media, producing content for regular communications products in support of peer-reviewed articles and other publications produced by faculty, producing impact and accomplishment statements through impactful and engaging storytelling, mentoring student interns in science writing and communications and providing assistance with associated scholarships and competitions.
