The mid-west coastal counties of Florida present a wide variety of marine-related interests and their associated problems. Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando counties are among the fastest growing population areas of the state. New coastal residents require knowledge on a variety of subjects such as: fragility of the coastal zone, seafood usage and safety, boating safety and hurricane preparation. More northern counties are less influenced by newer residents to date, and commercial fishing, sport fishing and marine aquaculture still comprise the predominant marine interests.
