  • Professor and Chair, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. The Chair provides comprehensive program leadership and administrative support to the teaching, research and extension functions of the Department. The Chair must have: an earned doctorate in fisheries, aquatic sciences, or a closely related field; demonstrated leadership abilities and integrity; demonstrated administrative skills; a strong teaching, research, and/or extension background with an excellent record of program accomplishments commensurate with the rank of tenured Professor; outstanding communication skills with a variety of audiences; and a strong commitment to administrative duties and responsibilities. The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences was founded in 1984 and has grown from 3 to 14 tenure-track faculty, 3 non-tenure accuring faculty, and 14 affiliate or courtesy faculty. The Department now has 37 full-time staff (professional, administrative, and technical) and more than 40 graduate students and post-docs. The Department offers an undegraduate minor and graduate programs leading to M.S., non-thesis Master's and Ph.D. degrees. The Department generates well over $1,000,000 annually in contracts and grants. The Mission of the Department is to advance basic and applied knowledge of the biological structure, function, and productivity of aquatic ecosystems through program areas in Sustainable Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Animal Health, and Conservation and Management of Aquatic Environments.
